Gabriel Ríos moved from his hometown, San Juan in Puerto Rico, to Ghent at the age of 17 to study painting. Meanwhile, he also became the frontman of several bands, until he made a name for himself in 2003 with the legendary album “Ghostboy.
One album after another followed, resulting in an eclectic oeuvre for which Ríos collaborated with names such as Jo Bogaert (Technotronic), Jef Neve, Kobe Proesmans (The Colorist Orchestra) and multi-instrumentalist cum producer Ruben Samama.
Ríos' musical journey took him from the quirky Latin / pop crooner on 'Ghostboy' to the introspective singer-songwriter record 'This Marauder's Midnight'. His most recent album, 'Flore,' consists of a rist of re-invented Latin classics and a handful of his own tracks, including collaborations with Devendra Banhart. Transcending genres, we call it. Be it extremely danceable hits like “Broad Daylight” or the wonderfully subdued “Gold.
A warm evening in August with a setting sun over a green OLT has often proved to be the ideal setting for a Gabriel Ríos show. A perfect summer evening, that is!
