Bobbi Lu is Lucy Ryan, British born artist living in Belgium with lyrics that usually come from nonsense and are made sense of later.
Now, as DIY bedroom producer Bobbi Lu, she’s intertwining piano melodies with deep crunchy bass, electronica and samples, coming together in a dystopian and mysterious sound. Radiohead meeting FKA Twigs, or Jockstrap dancing with Saya Grey. On the 25th of October she released her debut album called Arrow, Four on Mayway Records.
The album is a jigsaw of a few years worth of songs, each with their own story and created in varying ways. The arrow in question gets pulled in different directions sonically and lyrically, as Lucy has tried to let the theme of how progression one way can pull back in a different way, guide her.
A signing to the Mayway label of acts like The Haunted Youth, Meskerem Mees and Ão, she’s played a bunch of gigs to rave reviews, including festivals like The Great Escape (UK), Fifty Lab (BE), Grasnapolsky (NL) and Left of the Dial (NL), while also opening for Sylvie Kreusch and The Haunted Youth. With Arrow, Four, her live shows take on a new dimension; in a trio setup, they will be energetic and ethereal.
