In 2011 Spreej put himself on the map with “Aangenaam” (a Dutch word with the double meaning “Pleasant” and “Nice to meet you”), an EP that made clear that Christophe Caboche - his real name - had big plans. Smooth flows, a distinctive voice, and a more than interesting story to share: it came as little surprise that this youngster from Ghent conquered Belgium, together with partner in crime Safi. Radio hits, a prestigious record deal, and stages that were broken down to the very last screw... The duo had the world at their feet, until the collaboration came to an abrupt end. Except for a separate single with Jayh, the great nothing followed for SPREEJ fans, as if he had been wiped off the face of the earth.
While hip-hop became more and more popular in Belgium, SPREEJ withdrew completely. Quitting was not an option, as his story had not yet been told. But his burning ambition was put on hold for a while. The sacred fire was eventually rekindled by an unexpected source. None other than Johannes Verschaeve (The Van Jets) took SPREEJ under his wings and put him back on track musically. It didn’t take long before the results were there. SPREEJ rediscovered the power of his pen and would rise like a phoenix from the ashes, ready to set the music world aflame again.
