'BWANA is the indie-pop/rock, alternative and boundless music project of Friedel Dufait. She immediately manages to win over souls with her low melancholic guitar lines accompanied by a recognisable, powerful and low singing voice where polyphony contributes a good tone.
BWANA has the ability to form both a 'one woman band', mastering all the instruments you need to form an indie pop/rock, alternative band. But she now also plays with a live band, to rub the Bwanan style in your face even harder! She writes original and heartfelt lyrics, in which you might recognise yourself. She can compete with indie heroes like The Haunted Youth, girl in red and PJ Harvey.
During the selection for Humo's Rock Rally 2022 and as a finalist of Sound Track 2021-2022, she managed to impress immediately with her live performances of her own songs. It is therefore no surprise that she was noticed by Pukkelpop programmer Eppo Janssen, who recommended her by saying, "Keep an eye on her." What's more, she is now the winner of Studio Brussels' Nieuwe Lichting 2024, recognising her as a talent that belongs in the spotlight.'
