Billie Kawende has Congolese roots and was born with music in her genes. Her idols included Whitney Houston, Brandy and Chaka Khan. She came in contact with hip hop and R&B through her siblings, with gospel through Protestant mass celebrations and finally the Kunsthumaniora Brussel introduced her to great jazz vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughan etc. With a mix of her own songs and covers ranging from Chaka Khan to Stevie Wonder, she revives funk, soul and motown.The combination of her powerful voice and stage presence make every performance a special experience, without neglecting her African roots.She also participates in the project Over Songs Gesproken together with Kris and Koen Wauters and Mark Vanhie.
